Chinese history credits the invention of silk fabric to Yuen Fei, an emperor's concubine. Legend has it she dropped a cocoon into hot tea and it unraveled. From that humble beginning, many types of silk have been created.Tusah silk is produced by silkworms that feed on oak leaves. Silk dupioni is produced from 2 silkworms that spin a cocoon together, thus making a strong double-thread silk. Dupioni silk is currently enjoying great popularity.
The finest quality silk is made by the mulberry silk moth, which feeds on mulberry leaves. The average cocoon contains 300-400 meters of silk. It takes about 5500 silkworms to produce approximately 2 pounds of raw silk! Cocoons are still dipped in hot water to loosen the tightly woven filaments that make up a silkworm's cocoon. These filaments, or fine threads, are unwound onto a spool. Each cocoon is made up of a filament between 600 and 900 meters long! Of course, these filaments are extremely thin.
Between five and eight of these superfine filaments are twisted together to make one silk thread. One can easily see why silk is rare and incomparable. At one time silk was reserved for royalty. Today it is available to all who desire the luster and softness of silk. One wonders how long it will be before an environmental group strikes out against silk-worm growers and producers? But until then, enjoy silk in all its forms: bedding, lingerie, clothing, accessories, drapes, curtains, and pillows. Silk lingerie is even popular with men, with silk thongs being the most sought after men's item...See for yourself at http://www.silk-obsession.com.

Luxury Baby Bedding - What To Look For Before You Buy
When buying luxury baby bedding, perhaps first decide what style and fabric you like best. When you decide what luxury baby bedding you want, mix and match colors and patterns on your babys bed. Different flower fabrics mix well with solid or stripe materials, for example, but keep them all in the same color family. Be sure and consider which fiber is best for your baby bedding. You should be able to find and choose from the following materials when shopping for bedding:? Cotton - percale, sateen, flannel or organdy.
Cotton is a natural fiber that breathes well, and it tends to be durable, easy to machine wash and to dry.? Linen - linen, damask or venise. Dry-clean this natural fiber to avoid excessive shrinkage. It is a wonderful fabric to use during the summer as it stays cool in warm weather. ? Silk - brocade, charmeuse, chiffon, organza, doupioni or silk satin. This material gives a very luxurious look and feel to your bedroom.

Surround Yourself In Silk Comforters
In times gone by, silk was used for comforters in China- but could only be afforded if you were of the wealthy, noble class.
But those days are gone, and now almost anyone can own a gorgeous silk comforter!
What were silk comforters so coveted in by the Chinese?
Most comforters were filled with cotton fiber, but the longer fiber of silk were combed, aligned and stitched into thin layers of fabric which were then stacked and sealed inside silk shells to form comforters that were warm but allowed moisture to pass through easily.
In fact, silk summer comforters were simply thinner versions with less layers of filling. The comforters were placed inside a washable envelop, much like the duvet of today. Even today, in Chinese culture the comforter of 100% silk is considered a status symbol. It remains much the same even now.
Silk is a natural fiber taken from the cocoons of silk worms.
